A model for asymmetric three-phase transmission lines developed directly in time domain

Abstract

At this project will be developed a three-phase transmission line model that can be used to represent symmetric and asymmetric line with or without transposition. The proposed model will be developed directly in time domain and it is based on the hypothesis that a small three-phase line segment can be represented as being a circuit with lumped elements (resistances, inductances, capacitances and conductances). This model, in opposition the most of models with lumped elements, will be developed directly in phase domain without to separate the line in its propagation modes. Because modal decomposition is not used, the proposed model will be more exact and more generic than existent models where the separation of the line in its propagation modes is done by using, in an approximated way, real and constant matrices. The developed model can be used to simulate electromagnetic transients in electric power systems. Because the proposed model is more exact than existing models, the utilization of the proposed model will provide reliable results that will permit to operate the electrical system more efficiently and safely.
