Abstract

Erectile dysfunction is a common medical disorder with a negative impact on quality of life and personal well-being. It is estimated that in 1995 there were more than 152 million men worldwide with some form of erectile dysfunction. The projection for 2025 shows a prevalence of 322 million men with erectile dysfunction. Cardiovascular diseases including coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, peripheral vascular disease and diabetes mellitus are also closely correlated with the presence of sexual dysfunction in men. Since alcoholism and diabetes mellitus are major health problems, social and economic development in many societies and to date, no study was conducted to investigate the effects of alcoholism associated with diabetes mellitus on the reactivity of the corpus cavernosum smooth muscle of rats, become necessary more studies of these pathologies associated with erectile dysfunction. The objectives of this study will evaluate the relaxing and contractile responses of isolated corpus cavernosum in rats intoxicated, drunk-diabetics and diabetics, study the expression of protein isoforms (eNOS and iNOS) and endothelial-NOS by using the immunohistochemical technique and evaluate through protein and genetic expression by qT-PCR technique isoforms of NOS (iNOS and eNOS) and ETa and ETb receptors and microRNAs-21, 27b, 155 and 199.
