Submillennial timescale paleoclimatic records during last Interglacial sensu lato (~130-71 krys), based in foraminifera and geochemistry, in the Southwestern South Atlantic

Abstract

Understand the processes and mechanisms that control the climate, its dynamics over the last climatic cycles, as well as the response time to different systems and regions, and the connection that exists between them, are a goal and a priority for the current state of scientific knowledge. Faced with the worrying situation that outlines the results of the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2007), and the resulting social alarm, the high-resolution paleoclimate studies are of particular interest. The only files available for reconstruct the environmental conditions in the deep oceans are the sedimentary sequences. The main objectives of this project are to perform, in an unprecedented way for the region, high resolution studies of sediment recovered in a piston core on the SW South Atlantic for detect events over Last Interglacial (sl) in millennial and sub-millennial timescales and the periods immediately before and after using this micropalaeontological techniques (quantitative analysis of planktonic foraminifera) and geochemical (oxygen isotopes in benthic foraminifera, carbonate content, Ti / Ca and Fe / Ca ratios) and compare these patterns with the corresponding hemisphere and N S (eg ice cores), in order to estimate the temporal relationship existing as well as the manifestation of the same at different latitudes and regions.
