Influence of a nylon fiber reinforcement in flexural strenght and dimensional alteration of acrylic resins

Abstract

The purpose of this study i to evaluate some properties of acrylic resins when reinforced by a nylon fiber. A microwave heat cured acrylic resin (RAAT) (Vipi-Wave - Vip Dental Ltda) and a self cured acrylic resin hard for rebasing (Tokuso-Tokuyama) will be tested for flexural strength and dimensional stability. Specimens bar shaped 65x10x3mm (n=12) will be analyzed for flexural strength in some situations: RAAT containing or not nylon fibers (modified or not by silica), and RAAT rebased with soft liner in the same conditions related to flexural strength analyses. It will have even established groups for all the possibility of thermocycling method of specimens. Dimensional changes will be checked by analyses of predetermined points measurement on artificial teeth in upper complete dentures (n = 6) and that also will be submitted prior to thermocycling. Three points bending test will be made in a universal testing machine and the results in mega pascal (MPa). Dimensional changes measurement will be made to capture occlusal images before and after polymerization of prosthesis and scanned for the Image Tool. The values obtained will be compiled and submitted to the appropriate statistical analyses. (AU)
