Observational detection of thermal comfort from the urban area of Presidente Prudente, Brazil

Abstract

The thermal comfort (ALI-TOUDERT and MAYER, 2006; OLGYAY, 2008; SILVA e AMORIM, 2010; COSTA et al. 2010) of the urban canyons in the city of Presidente Prudente will be observed through the application of questionnaires and the measurements of energy fluxes. These questionnaires will be applied following the methodology of Marangoni, 2005. The instruments used to measure the energy fluxes will be set up on a mobile platform, which moves through the bottom of the canyons (MACHADO e AZEVEDO, 2005; MACHADO, 2009).The comfort patterns will be verified, along traverses, through the different kinds of soil coverage and occupation, during the diurnal and nocturnal periods during the dry and wet seasons. Air temperature, relative humidity and convective QH flux (MONTEIRO, 1975; OKE, 1987) measurements will be also taken, between the atmosphere and urban buildings. The presence of the atmospheric urban heat island (MACHADO e AZEVEDO, 2007a) will be related with the comfort patterns. Over the vertical surfaces (walls) will be analyzed the influence of QH flux in respect to establish a comfort state. (AU)
