Abstract

The increasing demand for electrical energy in the last decades and the great number of new interconnections between neighbor systems have made the operation and control of power systems a challenging task for engineers. More precise and refined techniques of analysis have been required to safely operate power systems. The main aim of this research project is to develop new and more refined methods for analysis and control of power system in order to improve the reliability of the system operation. Power system analysis can be divided into several topics. From the technical point of view, this project deals with some of them in which the group has already established reasonable acknowledgment. Basically, the following subtopics will be covered: 1) State Estimation: (i) Geometrical and Topological basis for the Measurements Gross Errors Analysis, Network Parameters and Topological Errors, (ii) State Estimation with Synchronized Phasor Measurements, (iii) Distribution Systems State Estimation, 2) Stability Analysis: (i) Transient Stability via Direct Methods, (ii) Small-Signal Stability, (iii) Voltage Stability and 3) Network Reconfiguration in Distribution Systems. New methodologies and tools of analysis will be developed, contributing in this way for the security and reliability of electrical power systems. (AU)
