Abstract

Interstitial cystitis also called painful bladder syndrome, bladder pain syndrome and hypersensitivity syndrome Bladder weakness is a chronic, inflammatory disease that affects the bladder, its etiology remains unclear. Its incidence is ten cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants. Symptoms of the disease are pelvic pain, urinary urgency and frequency, but the clinical symptoms alone is not sufficient for definitive diagnosis of the disease. The questionnaires are considered reliable in obtaining a diagnosis because they are not invasive and they can be applied in combination with other diagnostic methods. Objective: to translate into Portuguese and adapted to Brazilian culture questionnaires "The Interstitial Cystitis Symptom Index and Problem Index" and "Pelvic Pain and Urgency / Frequency (PUF) Patient Symptom Scale." Methods: This is a methodological study of translation and cultural adaptation of questionnaires up to the Portuguese language. The cultural adaptation process follows these steps: translation, synthesis, back-translation, evaluation by the expert committee and pre-test. The questionnaires will be applied at four separate locations: in two hospitals and a public clinic in two different cities in the interior of Sao Paulo, and in private practice of Urology. For the pretest, the questionnaire will be applied in a sample of 30 women and 40 men, over the age of eighteen, who have at least one symptom of interstitial cystitis. The reliability will be evaluated by test-retest reliability and discriminant validity performed, using groups (one study and two controls) with 15 to 30 subjects. Data analysis: Data will be analyzed through the questionnaire responses. In the questionnaire "The Interstitial Cystitis Symptom Index and Problem Index," the score of each index is calculated by adding the points for each item. The score ranges between 0 and 20 in the first index and 0 and 16 in the second index. If the value is greater than six in both indexes, it is interstitial cystitis. In the questionnaire "Pelvic Pain and Urgency / Frequency (PUF) Patient Symptom Scale" score varies between 5 and 24 and when it is more than 5, it is interstitial cystitis. The test-retest will be assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). To examine the discriminant validity between the three groups will be employed in the analysis of variance or Kruskal-Wallis, when the distribution is not normal, and also the chi-square test to compare between groups, the proportion of individuals who scored with values above and below the cutoff.
