Abstract

The Cerrado Domain occupies parts of Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Tocantins, and Minas Gerais States, also including in portions of Bahia, Piauí, and Maranhão States. Cerrado Domain also occurs in spots, that can be found in São Paulo, Paraná, Pará, Amazon and Rondônia States. Cerrado Domain is limited by Amazonian Rainforest, Caatinga and Atlantic Rainforest. Its vegetation is formed by two physiognomy and floristic patterns: savannah or cerrado pattern (campo, campo-sujo, campo-cerrado, and cerrado) and forest pattern (cerradão). In 1965, the cerrado in the State of São Paulo occupied 13.7% of its territory, 2.9% represented by cerradão (724,900 ha); in 1974, 4.18% were cerrado areas; in 1983, 149,000 ha were cerrado and 34,000 ha were cerradão. This study will investigate the population dynamics of remainder of cerradão, located in the area of Clube Náutico Araraquara, Américo Brasiliense (SP). Between 1992 and 1994, the scrub-arboreous fitossociology study was realized in 25 permanent plots that were distributed by random-systematic pattern. This study will compare the original fitossociology data with currently fitossociology data collected in the same plots. Thus, it will be possible to get information such as the population growth, change in the distribution of size or species, mortality ratio, etc. The knowledge about the dynamics population of the vegetation contributes to understand the phytogeography of species and to propose efficient strategies for conservation of its remainders.
