Abstract

The main goal of this project is to analyze the modernization process of sciences in Brazil, specially those in mathematical sciences, at the beginning of XX century, directly attached with the foundation of the University of São Paulo and University of Brazil, in the thirties. We suggest, through the bibliography presented here, that there were at least two groups attached at this dynamic: the positivists and modernizing groups, both working around the engineering schools in Rio de janeiro and São Paulo. Yet this process is related to a modernization and internationalization of mathematical sciences in Europe, whose main characteristic is a intended changing in themes and approaches of researches and in his production and dissemination. In so doing, this project must consider, in a comparative way, the manners this modernization was received and transmitted in Brazil in face of the European process. (AU)
