Microparticles of cashew gum and essential oils of Cordia verbenacea d. c. and Achyrocline satureioides (LAM.) d. c: anti-inflammatory evaluation and analytical development for quantification of ±-humulene, ±-pinene and (-)-trans-caryophyllene

Abstract

For many years it's great the importance of natural products in our society. Essential oils are one of those products, and volatile substances extracted from plants, providing raw materials for cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food industries. Essential oils are usually obtained by steam distillation. The oils of Cordia verbenacea and Achyrocline satureioides present mainly the ±-pinene and trans-caryophyllene, and oils with therapeutic value-added. Both have the ±-humulene in its constitution, and in the case of C. verbenacea demonstrably responsible for the anti-inflammatory action inferred by its oil. These oils can undergo oxidation, reduction, rearrangements or other chemical reactions of decomposition and its high volatility makes the loss of monoterpenes during storage or handling. Thus, this protection is essential for maintenance of therapeutic action original. This protection can be obtained through the formation of microparticles, whose production involves the use of polymers that minimize deteriorative reactions. For this project envisioned the use of cashew gum, because it represents an abundant raw material in the country and the viability can replace gum arabic, the traditional treatment. To analyze the constituents of the oils in the microcapsules will be held the release of complex polymers, which can be done in water since the gum is water soluble, and using the Gas Chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC / FID) via headspace in a sealed vial, which method should be validated. It will also evaluate the stability of original material and after this microparticulation, keeping them on camera with climate controlled temperature and humidity, together with monitoring of anti-inflammatory activity during the course of time. It is expected that the microparticulation reducing the deterioration of the oil constituents exposed to external agents mentioned, and longer biological action of the microparticles. (AU)
