Abstract
The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is highly consumed in Brazil and has a great importance in human nutrition. The common bean breeding search tools that makes it possible the transfer of disease resistance genes and micronutrient-related nutrition quality genes for developing countries, in order that the final product possess nutritional qualities and technologies that meet market needs. A strategy for transferring genes for disease resistance and drought tolerance for a cultivar of interest is through the mapping of the associated loci with these genes using molecular markers. In this sense, the associative mapping is a new alternative to perform linkage studies between molecular markers and important agronomic traits. An important step to perform the associative mapping is to properly select genotypes that will compose the associative panel, so that the maximum genetic variability to be exploited could be reached and duplicates avoided from the final associative painel.
