Chemical and structural analysis of Xylella fastidiosa biofilms


In this project, we plan to incorporate functionalization routines for surfaces and tips of atomic force microscopy to study mechanical and chemical properties of biomolecules (proteins) and the membrane of the plant pathogen Xylella fastidiosa. Several microscopy techniques (atomic force and force spectroscopy, optical and fluorescence, confocal) will be used. With this proposal we expect to gather information about the structural properties of these biomolecules and their role in the formation of biofllms that cause vascular occlusion of the xylem of affected plants.
