Abstract

This project is part of a program in the investigation of quantum liquids and solids. It presents possible developments of the work in which I am involved. I intend to continue studies of disorder phenomena in solid 4He. The diffusion Monte Carlo method will be extended to support calculations in an efficient way of properties that do not commute with the system Hamiltonian. In particular, calculate the kinetic energy of helium atoms at temperature T=0 in the supersolid phase, recently observed. I will develop a variational theory aimed to improve the description of these observations and also I will investigate the rich liquid-solid coexistence phase diagram of helium films. I am interested in studying borromian states, beginning with those of the H2 molecule. This project includes a possible parallelization of the Metropolis algorithm. The modern techniques that will be used here have a large spectrum of applications that goes beyond the mentioned topics. Finally, I would like to have the opportunity to continue going on collaborations and if possible to aggregate new participants. (AU)
