Abstract

The current and urgent concerns with the protection and preservation of the environment have stimulated the chemists involved with production processes of intermediary compounds and end-products for the consumption of the population to develop and to use more and more efficient and less polluting methodologies. The use of enzyme comes being pointed as an excellent possible strategy for reduction of solvent and steps that uses toxic metallic catalysts, to maximize the yield of chemical conversions and to get good stereochemical control in multi-steps syntheses. Enzymes can be gotten from diverse animal and vegetal sources. However the microorganisms are promising sources due to its small cycle of life and to the easiness of manipulation and maintenance. Fungi, yeasts and bacteria have been submitted to intense programs of selections, many times randomly, to find useful enzyme. We present here a different approach for the discovery of enzymatic chemical processes, studying the ecology and the biochemical adaptation that endophytic microorganisms undergoes during numerous life cycles to associate with the plants that host them. This particular developed biochemical association, together with the study of the secondary metabolism of these microorganisms, comes serving as a good guide for the detection of useful enzyme for transformation of natural products isolated from host plants and its structural analogous obtained synthetically, to generate bioactive substances. In this project, it is intended to characterize and isolate enzymes aiming to a large scale production. The bioactivity assays will include cytotoxycity activity, studies of mechanisms of cellular inhibition, besides antimicrobial and insecticidal activity. (AU)
