Phytochemical study and evaluation of the antimalarial, antimicrobial and acetylcholinesterase inhibition activities from the São Paulo State cerrado native species

Abstract

This project intent on realizes chemistry studies of native species from the São Paulo State flora with potential use for brain disorder, antimalarial and antimicrobial activities. The phytochemistry researches will be bioassay-guided by the antimalarial assay, using heme, additionally the promising samples will be evaluate in the Plasmodium strains. The enzyme acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity, which is an important target in the Alzheimer`s disease treatment, will be investigated too. On the side, the antimicrobial activity will be evaluated using Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, S. pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Furthermore, the use of the HPLC-micro fractionation analysis followed by bioassays will allow us to generated the crude extracts bioactivity chromatogram, therefore we will be able to pin-point the bioactive molecules and to accelerate the phytochemistry study. The analytical methodologies will employ chromatography (CC, TLC, PTLC, GC-MS, HPLC-DAD). The chemical structure of the isolated compounds will the assign on the bases of 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Thus, the main goal of this proposal will be identify potential antimalarial, antimicrobial, and acetylcholinesterase inhibitor natural compounds from plant species, as well contribute to the ongoing natural products research in the GPNUF laboratory (UNIFRAN) to the human resource formation, and to the consolidation of the UNIFRAN M.D.-Ph.D. Program in Science (Capes, score 4).
