Immunohistochemistry analysis of NF-kB and COX-2 expression in endometrial diseases

Abstract

Endometrial cancer is the most common type of gynecologic neoplasm in the developed world. On the United States; in 2008, it was estimated 40100 new cases being responsible for 7470 deaths. This neoplasm has clinical, epidemiological, and genetic heterogenity. It can be divided in type 1- endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium and type 2-non endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium. Recently literature review has shown that NF-κB and COX- 2 was associated on their signaling pathway and with upregulation in the endometrial carcinogenesis NF-κB consists is a family of 5 genes related with the transcription (NF-κB1, NF-κB2, c-Re1, Re1A e Re1B). It has being responsible for regulating apoptosis, cell cycle control, adhesion and cellular migration, inducing the radiotherapy and chemotherapy resistance. The cyclooxygenase (COX 2) is an enzyme that participates in the conversion of aracdonic acid to the prostaglandin; it was associated with angiogenesis, growth and tumor progression. In this study, the NF-κB (Policlonal Antibodies p50 and p65) and Cox-2 Immunohistochemistry expression will be evaluated in the endometrial polyps, typical and atypical endometrial hyperplasia and in endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium (type 1). The expression of these proteins will be evaluated and correlated to the disease progress and survival of the patients with the endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium. In this study, we will try to propose a model to predict the worst case patients. (AU)
