This project aims to deepen the development of technology for obtaining and characterisation of new metal alloys for applications in the semi-solid state. In recent work, it was mapped the influence of the silicon and magnesium content in obtaining as well as in the viscous behaviour of some Al-Si-Mg alloys, produced by semi-continuous casting with and without electromagnetic stirring, (with and without the use of ultra-refining ). Were made: the structural characterization, the characterisation of the solidus and liquidus temperatures and the various transformations of intermediate stage in which they evolve during his re-heating for tixoforming, besides determining the viscous behavior through hot compression tests. This project seeks to extend this line of research, improving techniques of production, namely through continuous casting, to test the feasibility in terms of tixoformability, of new compositions Al-Si-Mg and Al-Si-Cu-Mg, besides test alloys, unusual for tixoforming, but in common use in other applications. A comparison of morphology and viscous behaviour with the material originally used for operations of tixoforming, that is mostly the A356 and A357 alloys, will determined the potential application. This way, this project provides for the acquisition of an inductive heating system, the assembly of a system of continuous casting with electromagnetic stirring, as well as, material consumption required to achieve the same.
