Abstract

Objectives: Compare the life and health conditions of clients and non clients of a social restaurant in Campinas-SP. Methods: It is a case-control study, using a questionnaire divided in five modules: motivation for the use of this restaurant; demographic and socioeconomic characteristics; health conditions; food insecurity and food frequency; and anthropometry. Elderly will be interviewed after signature of the Informed Consent Form. The survey will include 210 clients of the restaurant (cases) and 210 elderly living in the same neighborhood (controls), matched by sex and age group. Data analysis: Description of all variables, using absolute and relative frequency and chi-square calculation to evaluate the differences in the frequencies of categories of each variable, between cases and controls. The proportion of Moderate or Severe Food Insecurity for each demographic, socioeconomic, health and nutrition variables will be compared among cases and controls using odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval. Finally, variables with p<0,20 in the bi-varied analysis will be included in a logistic regression model. Just statistically significant variables (p<0,05) will remain in the final model. Expected results: Data will provide informations about FI (Food Insecurity) and several other life and health conditions in clients and neighbors of a social restaurant and their population controls. Furthermore, the results will give informations for the managers of the Ministeries of Social Development and Hunger Combat and Adult Health to improve politics and programs related to FI and elderly quality of life and define, if this type of restaurant is needed or not for elderly with restriction to food access.
