Emotional experiences in puerpery of socioeconomically challenged primipary adolescents having premature infants: a clinical-qualitative study

Abstract

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 38% of first births are concentrated among mothers aged 10-19 years. As, symbolically, mother care should be based on the establishment of a family and in the commitment toward the bio-psycho-social development of the child, the present investigation aims at finding and interpreting the emotional experiences of a sample, conducted through saturation, of socioeconomically challenged primiparies, aged 10-19 years, who have given birth to premature infants at the Women's Center of Integral Health Care (CAISM), at the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP. The clinical-qualitative method will be used, consisting of semi-conducted psychological interviews with open questions, which will be recorded and transcripted for further Qualitative Content Analysis, in an inter-disciplinary theoretical reference frame focused on the psycho-dynamic aspect. Our purpose in conducting this study is to contribute to the scientific comprehension of the bonds which are formed between these adolescent mothers and their premature infants, in order to improve the assistential approach to these patients and their children in potentially critical clinical conditions.
