Leucocyte shedding to the vaginal content in women with and without vulvovaginitis

Abstract

The defense mechanisms of the vagina have become important to understanding physiopathogenesis of the feminine genital infections. Many studies have been done to clarify the defense mechanisms and assisting the diagnosis. However, until the present moment, it's dificult to establish a clear correlation between leucocyte population responsible for vaginal epithelium protection in women with or without vulvovaginitis. The aim of this study is to identify and to quantify the defense cells (neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, macrophages, dendritic cell, B-lymphocyte, NK- lymphocyte, T-lymphocyte) present in vaginal contend of women with and without vulvovaginitis. We will study 132 women, 44 with vulvovaginal candidosis, 44 with bacterial vaginosis and 44 without vulvovaginitis. The presence or absence of vulvovaginites will be determinate by gynecology exam, pH vaginal measure, Whiff test, vaginal bacterioscopy by the Gram stain and yeast culture. Five ml of PBS will be instilled in the vaginal cavity to be collected afterwards through sucking. The defense cells of the material collected will be evaluate using flow cytometry.The statistical analyses will be performed using the statistical software SAS 9.02. Mean, median, standart desviation and percentile will be analyzed in the data analysis. The statistical tests used will be X2-test and ANOVA followed by the Tukey if necessary. A p value statistically significant considered should be less than 0.05. (AU)
