In situ evaluation of remineralization and demineralization during and after tooth bleaching


The aim of this in situ study is to evaluate enamel demineralization and remineralization during and after dental bleaching with different techniques and products. It will also be observed the enamel topography before and after the bleaching treatments. Ten volunteers will use intra-oral devices in which 4 human enamel samples (5 mm X 5 mm X 1,5 mm) will be fixed and will be submitted to the following treatments: Group 1 - 10% carbamide peroxide for 14 days; Group 2- 35% hydrogen peroxide/ light activation with argon laser; Group 3 - 35% hydrogen peroxide/ light activation with LED. Group 4 will be consisted of enamel samples without treatment (control). Monitoring of both the demineralization and remineralization processes will be performed in diffreent time intervals (before, during and after the bleaching treatment) under QLF analysis. The images will be obtained and analyzed by a specific program of the equipment and the white spot area, the enamel fluorescence and the lesion volume will be verified. The data will be submitted to statistical analysis. The enamel topography before and after the treatment will be observed under scanning electron microscopy. (AU)
