Abstract

The inflammatory bowel disease that mainly includes the unespecific ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease is frequently associated to a wronged growth and nutritional in teenagers, most of times a result of the illness intensity and a weakly nutrient ingestion. This study intends to evaluate the correlation between the nutritional clinic state, through the body weight, prgas cutâneas and a dietary diary, as well as the seric macro and micronutrients, height and genetic polimorfism NOD2/CARD15 in teenager patients aging 12 to 21 years old with a confirmed diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. Approximattely 100 teenagers from both sexes will take part in this study. Among them, there will be 50 patients of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other 50 healthy teenagers or without any kind of illness that affects the nutritional state (control group). The evaluation of nutrient ingestion will be done through a seven-day dietary diary, fullfilled by the patient and checked at the moment of the medical appointment. The caloric ingestion of protein, carbohidrates, fat and micronutrients will be analyzed. The weight as well as the height will be measured to check the body mass index (BMI). Trough these values, the nutritional state of the participants will be done according to the World Health Organization (WHO, 1995) and the National Center for Health Statistics (CDC, 2000). In order to evaluate the body composition the thickness of the dobras cutâneas will be measured according to the techniques described by Lohman (1992), using calibrador Lange. The seric levels of vitamin A, C, D, E, B12, protombine time, folic acid, iron, ferritine, copper, zinc, magnesium, phosporus, potassium, albumin and hormones GH and IGF-1 will be a result blood samples collected at the time of the patient's inclusion in the study. The polimorfisms detections of NOD2/CARD15 gene will be done through the PCR and DHPLC techniques. The bone age will be evaluated by fist x-ray technique and quantified through Greulich & Pyle (GP) method. (AU)
