Abstract

Climacteric is the phase of women's life where important hormonal alterations occur that may culminate in diverse metabolic answers compared with those in less advanced ages. It is important to emphasize the alterations in the energy substrates metabolism that are related to plasma estradiol fall, which characterizes this period of life. The objective is to calculate the substrate oxidation rate after offering a meal rich in lipids for climacteric overweighed patients divided into two groups: one with hormonal therapy use and other without it. To reach this goal, an intervention study will be done. This consists of a population of postmenopausal women aged between 55 and 60 years, divided into two groups. They will have their resting metabolic rate measured by indirect calorimetry, receiving a meal reach in lipids after it. The energy substrate oxidation's rate will be calculated following previous established equations. (AU)
