Abstract

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have high prevalence of obesity. In addition to obesity, this disease is also associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Our hypothesis is based on the possibility that this endocrine-metabolic syndrome can promote relevant autonomic changes, thus impairing the cardiac autonomic control regardless of the comorbities associated (e.g. obesity). On the other hand, physical training has been used as adjunctive treatment for several diseases in order to promote beneficial adaptations to the individual, including improvement of the cardiovascular autonomic control. Therefore, our objective is to characterize the impairment of the cardiac autonomic modulation in women with polycystic ovary according to different levels of obesity. Additionally, the effect of aerobic physical training on polycystic ovary syndrome will also be investigated by focusing on body constitution, metabolic adaptations, and cardiac autonomic modulation. Female volunteers aged 18 to 39 years old presenting different percentages of body fat, with or without non-treated polycystic ovary, will be submitted to analysis of cardiac autonomic modulation in association with ergospirometric evaluation, body constitution, and laboratory exams to determining serum triglyceride levels, cholesterol fractions, fasting glycaemia, glucose tolerance, insulin and insulin sensitivity, catecholamine, leptin, adiponectin, and factor TNF-alfa prior to and after the 16-week aerobic-training protocol.
