Instead of the existence of reports about the association among Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD), migraine and Cervical Spine Disorders (CSD) the mechanisms responsible for such relationship is still largely unknown. One of these mechanisms is central sensitization, which marker is cutaneous allodynia, presented in migraine patients. However, there is no study in the literature that verified cutaneous allodynia in TMD patients. The objective of this study was to investigate the cutaneous allodynia using Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) in patients with TMD and migraine. Four groups of patients will be evaluated for this study: 30 patients with TMD and Migraine, 30 patients with TMD and without Migraine, 30 patients with Migraine only and 30 healthy volunteers without TMD and Migraine. The Migraine patients will be selected according to the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD). The cutaneous allodynia will be measured using QST in order to determine pain thresholds for cold, heat and mechanical stimuli. The presence of TMD will be assessed using the axis I of Research Diagnostic Criteria for TMD and CSD signs and symptoms, measuring cervical range of motion and cervical Pressure Pain Thresholds (PPT). This work will contribute to determine the presence or not of central sensitization in TMD patients and it's strictly relationship with other comorbities as Migraine. (AU)
