Indoor air quality and thermal comfort evaluation in air-conditioned office buildings

Abstract

Indoor air quality and thermal comfort are important factors to be considered in buildings. Little attention has been given to problems prevention, as there is a concern only after consequences become visible and unhealthy. This present work proposes measurement field researches in order to detect deficiencies in office buildings about thermal performance and indoor pollutants presence, comparing to thermal comfort and indoor air quality standards, such as ISO 7730 and CIB TG42 respectively. In this way, it will be possible to contribute on new project improvements, establishing which efforts should be previously taken and also to identify which problems can be avoided in material selection process and design planning at architectonic conception phase due to optimize thermal performance, assuming better indoor quality and occupants comfort.
