Secondary school education and the dissemination of the scientific and literary culture in the State of São Paulo (1931-1982)


This research project proposes a historical investigation on the secondary school education in the state of Sao Paulo articulating the transformations in the spheres of education policies with their implication in the school culture. The study reflects on the changes that took place between 1931 and 1982, a period marked by significant expansion of school vacancies in these schools generated especially by public authorities. The research seeks: a) to identify and analyze the policies implemented by different governments of the state of Sao Paulo for the secondary school education having in mind the education reforms, the innovation projects, the strategies adopted to promote the expansion vacancies and the pedagogical and administrative orientations; b) to identify the educational subjects involved in the process by analyzing the representations on the secondary school education; c) to investigate aspects of the secondary school culture taking as a reference the Bento Abreu State Secondary School in Araraquara by examining the curriculum, the education practices and the symbolic practices; to map out, group and make available the sources for a historical investigation of the secondary school education and, e) to produce a systematic study on the paulista secondary school that could contribute to the broadening of the historical research in the education.
