Photoeletrocatalytic oxidation of dyes from textil industry and tanning on nanoporous electrodes of Ti/TiO2

Abstract

The effluents discharged by dye processing plants can be an important source of water contamination, taking into account that significant amounts of dyes used for coloring processes enter the environment. The concern about disperse dyes and acids dyes and its derivatives is attributed to its mutagenic and carcinogenics properties, and new methods for degradation is required. The aim of the present work is to develop new degradation methods for dyes, surfactants and Cr(VI) residues using photoeletrocatalytis process with anodes of thin film of TiO2, by generation of hydroxyl radical and also chlorine radical formation. The photoelectrochemical oxidation of dyes will be investigated using photoelectrodes based on Ti coated by nanolayers of TiO2 with and without dope with Fe, V and Cr, nanotubes of TiO2 e ITO coated by TiO2 prepared and characterized by proper methodology.
