Comparison of Nellore bovine and other genetic groups performance, in termination feedlots, using modeling systems

Brazil has one of the biggest cattle herd of the world and became the first country in meat exportation since 2004. The most representative breed is Nellore, and its mainly advantage is the high adaptation to tropical enviroment. This breed shows a later development comparative to European breeds and crossed bovines, and at the same conditions, its fattening performance in feedlots is worse. This project consists in put together experimental results, obtained in recent years, about fattening cattle in feedlot. Original and individual results are going to be collected with the papers authors in several Research Institutes and Universities, regardless of the managing of the animals. It will be collected all the available results, involving animal characteristics, diets, managing, performance, carcass, meat quality, body composition, etc. After the reunion of the results and using the meta-analysis, it will be compared Nellore to other genetic bovines groups, to identified variables that determined the differences among these groups. It will be create mathematical models to represent productive systems in Brazil. The project will propose specified studies that explore metabolic, physiologic and other differences among Nellore breed and other genetic groups, racionalizando the resources utilization for research. Part of analyses will be developed at Texas A&M University, and it will be used as a possible pos-doctoring of the coordenator. (AU)
