Photophysical properties investigation of biosensors sensitive to nitric oxide applying fiber optic fluorescence spectroscopy

Abstract

Biosensors may help to exam and realize biological process, and present applicationson industrial and medical field. The biological medium is continuously changing and requiringa constant monitoring. In many cases traditional methodologies of sample praparation in solutionis over. However biosensors can reach such unusual conditions. Nitiric oxide (NO) is a menssagermolecule involced in many physiological and pathophysiological mechanism on cardiovascular system, central and peripheral nervous systems, and immune system. Since NO is found in gaseous form withshort half-life, indirect measurement to detect it is a promissing tool on its investigation. Fluorescence probes which photophysical properties are changed in the presence of NO will bedisposable on latex films with the goal of determining their efficiency on NO detection. Theprobe emission signal will be monitored by fiber optics fluorescence spectroscopy. Previous experience of assembling a fiber optics fluorescence spectrometer, applied on the investigationof electron transfer in polymeric films point to the feasibility of the present proposal. (AU)
