The physics of new materials and semiconductor nanostructures


The physics of semiconductor nanostructures: electronic, optical, exciton, and impurity properties of semiconductor nanostructures; quantum computers: condensed matter systems for quantum computing, Rabi oscillations, decoherence, and laser effects in semiconductor nanostructures; 2) the physics of new materials: spintronics and electronic, magnetic, and transport properties of diluted magnetic semiconductors and magnetic nanostructures; 3) the physics of new materials: photonics, photonic band structures, and control of photonic gaps in super lattices. this project is essentially composed of three parts: the first one related to the understanding of several electronic, optical, exciton and impurity properties of non-magnetic semiconductor nanostructures, the second part is dedicated to various magnetic, electronic, and transport properties of magnetic semiconductor nanostructures, and the final part is dedicated to photonics. this project involves collaboration with scientists of several Brazilian and foreign universities, with some of the cooperation occurring for nearly 15 years, such as the collaboration with the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Univ. of Havana (Cuba) and Universidad Del Valle (Cali, Colombia).
