Novel analytical strategies for studies involving biomolecules

Abstract

Novel analytical strategies involving bio-molecules, such as e.g. enzymes, metalloenzymes and metalloproteins will be implemented, with emphasis to use of biomarkers for evaluating tolerance to oxidative stress. Analytical procedures will be developed for the determination of anti-oxidants, markers of oxidative damage, metals and proteins; novel non-destructive methodologies for fast in-situ analysis in biological materials presenting high heterogeneity in structure and high variability in shape. The feasibility of exploiting isotope fractioning for evaluation of biochemical processes involving metals and biomolecules will be investigated. Furthermore, multi-pumping flow systems will be designed for direct analyses of the protein spots as well as for implementing mini-columns of biomaterials for pesticide determination. The acquired knowledge will be disseminated and the project development will be evaluated and re-directioned through workshops involving all the participants. (AU)
