Repair of damaged DNA and biological consequences

Abstract

The proposal aims to study different aspects of the Molecular Biology of the repair of injured DNA in various systems. In animal cells we are developing genetic vectors to intervene in the repair system and thus obtain information on how these act on some levels, such as, for example, apoptosis, mutagenesis and recombination. In plants we are trying to identify functions of two genes (araXPB and thi1) cloned by us in the repair of DNA, either through in vitro trials or in the construction of transgenetic plants modified by these genes. Finally, we are continuing the previous work in which we studied the repair mechanisms of bacterial DNA responsible for the protection of the genome against lesions induced by singlet oxygen. (AU)
