Study of the electronic structure of metal alloys by synchroton light

Abstract

The project presents a program in the study of surfaces to be undertaken essentially by the Physics of Surfaces Group of Unicamp (with the addition of Dr. P. Nascente, UFSCar) taking maximum advantage of the potential offered by a photo beam emanating from a synchrotron ring, in the case of the LNLS. It will be carried out in two stages the first being the assembly of the infrastructure necessary for the carrying out of experiments based on high-resolution electron energy spectroscopy. In the second stage it is proposed to use the XPS, XAES, LEED, XPD, AES, EXAFS and SEXAFS techniques to investigate the atomic and electronic structure of surfaces of massive alloys as well as those formed by deposition and diffusion of a metal on a monocrystalline substrate of another component of the alloy. The alloys to be studied will be of elements with important catalytic properties, with Pd, Cu, Ni, Ag, etc... (AU)
