Personal Innovation and Motivational Factors in the Intention to Use Metaverse Technologies in the Workplace for Productivity: A Multimethod Approach

Abstract

This study analyzes personal innovation and the motivational factors that enhance the intention to use the metaverse in the workplace, considering implementation barriers and the impact of a more interactive and practical learning experience in management education. This work seeks to identify the leading theories about the metaverse in organizations, explore the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors that lead to using productivity tools in the metaverse, and propose a theoretical model. Understanding the impact of the metaverse on business is essential for companies seeking to adapt and innovate in an evolving digital environment. The research will be conducted in four phases: systematic literature review, meta-analysis, quantitative analysis, and practical experimentation. In the first phase, a systematic literature review will be performed using the PRISMA methodology in the Web of Science and Scopus databases to identify the main theoretical constructs that motivate using the metaverse in organizations. In the second phase, a meta-analysis will be conducted based on correlational data from the articles selected in the previous phase. This result will enable the proposition of a theoretical model to be tested with quantitative techniques. In the third phase, linear techniques of Structural Equation Modeling and Necessary Condition Analysis will be used. Additionally, nonlinear techniques supported by Artificial Neural Networks will be employed for predictions from complex data. Finally, in the fourth phase, an experimental study will be proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the metaverse in management education using virtual reality equipment. As a result, this work intends to contribute to organizations by enabling them to use the obtained results to develop effective strategies for adopting metaverse projects, emphasizing the benefits and outcomes of using the technology.
