ARQUIGRAFIA Experience 4.0 in the context of the Sensible Metropolis and the contemporary Urban Imaginaries

Abstract

This research project for the third call for proposals of the SPRINT modality - São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration (2023) aims to intensify academic interactions between the Brazilian team of the FAPESP thematic project ARQUIGRAFIA 4.0 Experience (2020/05134-9) and the research group LEIRIS of Prof. Fabio La Rocca based at the Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3, in France, through bilateral scientific missions. According to the purposes of the call, the project aims to promote the engagement of researchers linked to higher education and research institutions in the state of São Paulo - in this case: USP and UFSCAR - with partner researchers abroad "to advance qualitatively in ongoing research projects and work cooperatively with a view to developing joint medium and long-term research projects". The proposed partnership with Prof. Dr. Fabio La Rocca carries forward the academic cooperation that started at the SL43 "free session" - Urban Imaginaries during the online VII ENANPARQ - Meeting of the Brazilian Association for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Architecture and Urbanism held at the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism (IAUUSP) in São Carlos in november 2022 and has continued at the ICHT2023 - V International Colloquium "Imaginary: Building and Dwelling the Earth" (FAPESP 2023/07604-0) held in São Paulo at the end of October 2023, when Professor La Rocca was present and actively participated in the colloquium activities. Similar conceptual basis, common approaches and interests in urban experience, aesthetics and atmosphere led to this project, seeing that the ARQUIGRAFIA multidisciplinary team deals with critical questions on mainstream Internet and the challenges for the coming of a Web 4.0, trying to promote mutual enrichment in relation to urban ordinary sensitive experience and the construction, organization, representation and retrieval of knowledge about cities in the present, in memory and in the design will for tomorrow. Such an interdisciplinary research field reiterates the accomplishment of sensitive experiences rooted in real and specific places in the city of São Paulo - considering the metropolis as a phenomenon but also as a metaphor for the conflicting diversity that outlines the Internet. On the other hand, ARQUIGRAFIA Experience 4.0 proposes to explore experimentally the "deconstruction" and the counter-hegemonic appropriation of elements and functional structures available online such as social networks (Facebook, Instagram, X, Youtube and others), freeware, open source software, hyperlinks, using the semantic web and analogies with the notions of: montage, from the cinema; collage, from the visual arts; bricolage; and prefabrication, from modern industrial architecture, which will result in solid and steady experimental prototypes for a critical autonomy in Web 4.0. It is then intended that such particular experiences - properly analyzed, criticized and perfected - will support a universal, more comprehensive, properly scientific, technological and methodological contribution, which produces theoretical and conceptual references with the potential to be freely reappropriated echoing on transformation, updating, reorientation and revision of guidelines regarding the development of interactions between urban environments and collaborative environments on Web 4.0 for the 21st century. The exchange activities between the Brazilian and the European scientific team will surely enrich and enlarge the horizons of architecture and urbanism, computer science and information science to a broader sociological and anthropological perspective concerning Urban Imaginaries (FAPESP 2020/06258-3) in France and in Brazil. Doing so, this project highlights the updating of a historical exchange between France and Brazil dedicated to the expanded and transdisciplinary Imaginary Studies attempts. (AU)
