Abstract
The primary objective of the proposed Human Resource Development Program in Petroleum Exploration and Reservoir Geology is to equip undergraduate and graduate students with highly specialized knowledge in the fields of petroleum exploration/prospecting and the characterization of oil and gas reservoirs. There is a substantial demand from students at all levels seeking training at IG-UNICAMP in these specialties. In the exploration area, few universities in Brazil offer students the opportunity to be simultaneously trained in multispectral, hyperspectral, and ultraspectral remote sensing methods; potential and seismic geophysical methods; geostatistics; geographic information systems; and the integration and spatial analysis of georeferenced data. The IG is nationally and internationally recognized for combining these methods to generate onshore and offshore prospecting targets. It has received several national (four Petrobras Technology Awards) and international awards for innovations in this area. The team is frequently engaged by the petroleum industry, both for proposing large-scale research projects (Petrobras, Shell, Repsol, Equinor, among others) and for providing specialized technical services (Petrobras, Shell, PetroRio (HRT), Petra, Imetame, Sinochem, Orteng-Codemig, EcoPetrol). IG also boasts extensive expertise in reservoir analysis (both siliciclastic and carbonate reservoirs), and student interest in these topics is equally high and in demand. This area also has a very positive track record of large-scale, long-term projects funded by both funding agencies and oil companies, primarily Petrobras, but with increasing diversification among other oil companies operating in the country. The idea of combining this set of knowledge to train professionals in the petroleum field has the potential to create a differentiated profile. Graduates will be equipped to use a suite of methods applicable from prospecting to reservoir characterization at various study scales. (AU)
