Improvement of the Laboratory Infrastructure and Collections of the Environmental Research Institute (IPA)

The Environmental Research Institute (IPA) was created through the merger of the Institutes of Botany, Geology, and Forestry, as per State Decree No. 65,796 of June 2021. IPA's mission is to conduct research and provide information to support environmental conservation and sustainable development programs of the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (SEMIL). IPA aims to coordinate and monitor the implementation of Science, Technology, and Innovation policies, particularly in the fields of biodiversity, botany, geosciences, and forestry. Additionally, it conducts scientific and technological research for the protection of biological diversity and natural resources, geoscience studies for conservation and rational resource use, and research related to forest conservation and production. The institution comprises three departments: Technical-Scientific, Technology and Innovation, and Knowledge Management, all of which strive to strengthen the connection between knowledge production and its application in society. IPA has a team of over 500 employees and a vast research infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment. Notably, the Postgraduate Program in Biodiversity and Environment, approved by CAPES, is the only one in Brazil that encompasses all taxonomic groups treated by botany, including fungi and cyanobacteria.
