EMU: aquisition of vacuum induction melting furnace for metallic alloys

Abstract

The acquisition of a vacuum melting furnace for the preparation of metallic alloys is requested.As a multi-user equipment, this furnace will be made available to the entire Brazilian S&T community, especially to the one located in the State of São Paulo, as well as to companies in the metal-mechanical sector, notably the emerging, becoming a supplier of special metallic alloys in pilot scale.The furnace will operate in the facilities of the Laboratory of Metallurgical Processes of IPT (LPM-IPT), in building 4 of the Institute.The main technical characteristics are as follows:a) Induction melting furnaceb) Max. charge capacity: 100 kg of steelc) Melting and pouring under vacuum or inert atmosphered) Work vacuum: 10-5 mbare) Melt temperature: 1600°Cf) Independent chambers for melting the initial charge, for extra additions during melting and for melt pouring, connected through valves.g) Casting one or two ingots each heat.Requests for the use of the furnace by any user must be sent to the e-mail lpm@ipt.br and will be evaluated and judged by the Users Committee, composed of the Responsible Researcher, the Associated Researchers and the Chief Researcher of the LPM- IPT.The availability of the furnace to the applicants will necessarily imply the availability of LPM-IPT personnel trained for its operation. The user will be allowed complete monitoring of all stages of the work to be carried out, including the planning of the melting strategy and elaboration of the metallic alloy (composition of the charge, charging schedule of the raw material, possible combination of vacuum/inert atmosphere).
