The person-poetry Clementina De Jesus: the communication of wholeness in media narratives

Abstract

This research project unfolds from investigations that I have developed throughout my academic life, with different but related themes, such as: a) the debate on anthropophagy; b) poetic communication; c) media narratives. In 2012, I made the script for the documentary Clementina de Jesus: Rainha Quelé, in which interviewees weave narratives that highlight the singer as a mythical, poetic force, supported by her performance on stage, orality, improvisation and the ancestry of her afro-brazilian singing. Based on an anthropophagic method, I propose to investigate the possibility of constructing the concept of person-poetry, based on Clementina de Jesus' apparent ability to lead to a communication process that integrates differences, in a blend of the daily and the extraordinary. To compose the corpus, I make use, also in an anthropophagic way, of narrative scraps from different sources that, combined, can help in the construction of a profile that is more than biographical, as it is poetic, potent in opening and capable of producing the new, therefore, person-poetry. I also propose to investigate whether it is possible to think about a communication of wholeness fostered by this person-poetry, as these narratives are presented as a relational, complex process and a way of deep knowledge. Among the references, I mention Edgar Morin, Paul Ricoeur, Octavio Paz, Mircea Eliade, Ciro Marcondes Filho, Gustavo de Castro. The justification of this investigation lies in bringing to light the discussions related to the sensitive and subjective sphere of poetic communication, through the revelation of a complex profile, which is of the person-poetry Clementina de Jesus, an important figure in afro-brazilian music and culture. Based on the above, from sensitivity mosaics, I seek to increase the discussion and methodology for communication studies and for reading narratives. (AU)
