IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL EVALUATION OF TLRS IN ORAL LESIONS CAUSED BY HPV WITH AND WITHOUT CONCOMITANT CANDIDA INFECTION

Abstract

The search for biomarkers capable of guiding the understanding of viral diseases has been going on for a long time. It is known the participation of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) either as an initiating agent of oral lesions such as papilloma, verruca vulgaris and condyloma acuminata, and also its role in head and neck carcinomas. In our practice in surgical pathology we see many cases of papillomas and carcinomas in which the fungus of the genus Candida is present concomitantly. Thus, in the present study, we designed to evaluate the behavior of toll like receptors (TLRs), proteins known to be involved in the initial reaction of the innate immune system, to infectious agents in the presence of HPV virus and concomitant presence of Candida. For this, cases of benign lesions whose diagnoses have been papilloma, condyloma acuminata and wart vulgaris, occurring in the oral mucosa, including the lip, will be selected. Cases will be separated by the concomitant or non-concomitant presence of the Candida fungus. The anti-protein L1 antibody of the HPV virus capsid will be used to detect the presence of the virus in epithelial cells and will be followed by the investigation of TLRs 1,2,3,4,7,8 in the selected samples. For this purpose, the immunohistochemistry technique will be used. A comparative analysis of TLR expression in normal mucosa and HPV lesions with and without Candida fungus will be performed. (AU)
