Abstract
Rudá, a character in Travessia (TV Globo, 2022-2023), is a teenager in the process of discovering his asexual identity. Caught between his stepfather's macho attitudes and his mother's prejudiced remarks, Rudá grapples with his feelings of self-discovery and self-acceptance. This project aims to discuss the representation of asexual male teenagers in Brazilian telenovelas, with a focus on Glória Perez's work in the context of contemporary society. The methodology combines bibliographic research, which proposes a theoretical review on asexuality, masculinity, adolescence, and Glória Perez's productions, with analytical audiovisual research based on narrative and stylistic analysis, criticality, and comparison with bibliographic and documentary contributions. The theoretical framework draws from the fields of sexuality and gender studies, youth and authorship studies, and audiovisual communication studies, particularly in television fiction. The research aims to achieve the following: to understand the context of violence against asexual people in Brazil and the meanings negotiated through telenovelas; to explore the destabilization of heteronormative masculinity and the tensions to hegemonic standards presented in telenovelas; to analyze the innovations and ruptures, as well as stereotypes and clichés, in the ways adolescence is represented in telenovelas; to investigate the recurrence of introspective characters or those with imprecise sexual orientation in Glória Perez's work; and to give cultural experiences tangible form through the creation of fiction and poetry anchored in emerging citizen themes.
