Strengthening the partnership Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and USP Ribeirão School of Nursing: Contributions of Prof. Dr. Lucine Francis.

Abstract

The international cooperation will contribute significantly to leverage projects in the areas of tuberculosis (TB), multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and HIV, areas of interest to Prof. Ricardo, in addition to the themes of Primary Health Care (PHC), nutrition, child health and vulnerability, lines of research of Prof. Lucine. In addition, Technological Innovation is one of the expected products, given the expertise of the researcher from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (SON-JHU). The results and repercussions of this proposal will allow the qualification of researchers and students, and will be a differential in the horizon of formation related to the activities of teaching, research and extension. There is also the expectation of strengthening practices in services, since the international researcher has experience in advanced practice in nursing. Specifically about JHU, it is ranked as the 13th best university in the world, according to the metrics of THE World University Rankings (THE), this in the world ranking; in the United States ranking it is in the 9th position. It is a renowned and prestigious institution, with strong influence in the health area; it has even been in the leadership of international projects to tackle COVID-19. Notably, about SON-JHU, its mission is to improve the health of diverse individuals and communities at global and local levels through leadership and excellence in nursing education, research, practice, and service. Among the descriptions in its "Institutional Development Plan," its primary goal, Innovation and Excellence, is highlighted as it aims to lead advances in education, research, and practice in health services. It also features strengthening local and global communities, and aims to build educational/practice partnerships to improve the health workforce and health outcomes through policy, practice, education, and research. Among its academic repertoire are undergraduate nursing and graduate programs; and specifically about the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctoral Programs - PhD (our academic) and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Advanced Practice/PhD (in the areas of gerontology, family health/primary care, pediatrics/primary care, and mental health). An interesting strategy is that the DNP is driven by clinical practice and nursing research innovations, which aim for transformations in practice, qualification of practice, and care by best evidence. Specifically about Prof. Dr. Lucine Francis, visiting researcher of the present proposal, she is a nurse with specialization in public health, assistant professor at SON-JHU, whose line of research is child health. Her main research focus is on identifying the ways in which children are provided with the best environment to support their health and well-being. Currently, Prof. Lucine seeks to understand the role of nutrition and active play in child health and learning by developing and testing acceptable solutions to improve wellness policies and practices in daycare and school settings. Her work is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions, a Center that brings together health research and program development resources to demonstrate the effectiveness of public health, social science, and medical science in mitigating health disparities.Notably, Prof. Lucine Francis is a member of the Maryland Child Care Wellness advisory panel, a member of the Nurse Leadership Institute of Maryland. In 2019 she completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Morton K. and Jane Blaustein Foundation in the themes of Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing.From the above, it is evident the relevance of this proposal for the qualification of research and training of human resources.
