Proposal from the Dante Moreira Leite Library of the Institute of Psychology of the University of São Paulo (IPUSP), for the use of part of the Technical Reserve of Institutional Research Infrastructure at IPUSP

Abstract

The activities of the Dante Moreira Leite Library of the Institute of Psychology of the University of São Paulo (IPUSP) began in January 1972, shortly after the creation of IPUSP, on December 16, 1969, by State Decree 52.326, which came into force in 1970. In 1985, the library had its facilities renovated and expanded and, in 1995, it had a new building occupying an area of 2,170m². In 2006, the Library officially became the Dante Moreira Leite Library.Classified as a Service (Library and Documentation Service) its mission is: "To coordinate actions for the selection, gathering, organization and dissemination of information in Psychology and related sciences, while supporting teaching, research, extension and professional practices, contributing to the preservation, generation and visibility of knowledge in the area. It is known that the physical collection of books in the Library "is considered one of the most complete and representative of the area in Latin America". In addition to books, the Library has a rich collection of periodicals, theses, psychological tests, films, brochures, among others. Serving the user with quality and efficiency has always been one of the main objectives of the Library. For this, we have personalized service always performed by a librarian, who guides users in their searches and research. The Library has a reading room, three group study rooms, a training room, two auditoriums, a video library, living spaces and Internet access (research). In order to perform its activities with quality and competence, the Library has a qualified work team that, in addition to routine activities, contributes to the generation of scientific knowledge by publishing articles, books, book chapters, bibliographic guidance manuals and presenting works in scientific events of the areas of Librarianship, Psychology and Scientific Publishing. To fulfill part of its objectives, the team gives lectures and classes on Scientific Work Methodology in undergraduate and graduate courses at the Institute. Promotes and teaches courses on how to prepare scientific articles, reference managers, bibliometrics and training in information sources. The Library has a space for courses, classes and meetings, which we call the Training Room. Built with project funding from the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), it was inaugurated on September 29, 1999.It is equipped with nine computers for users with Internet access. The room is also composed of a multimedia projector, sound box, air conditioning, nine benches, 18 chairs and a table with a computer for the instructor. The computers that are in the Library's Training Room are damaged and without proper conditions of use. Always remembering the mission and main objectives of the Library, we urgently need to acquire new equipment to continue the important activities carried out in this space. (AU)
