Abstract

The blue light emitted from the screens of devices such as smartphones, notebooks, tablets, has an energy quantity to cause skin problems, such as age spots, melasma hyperpigmentation and photoaging of the skin. There was a significant increase of blue light-induced skin problems in the pandemic related to increased screen exposure. The trend is that there will be an increase in skin problems caused by blue light in the next few years due to the increase of the use of screens for the most diverse activities such as work and leisure. As a result, there is a demand for ingredients for cosmetic formulations to prevent blue light damage to the skin. One of the potential active is Lutein, which is a carotenoid extracted from marigold flowers. Lutein induces protection against blue light damage to the skin, because Lutein absorbs blue light and promotes cellular effects, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. These effects collabore in the skin photoaging reduction. In addition, skin is the second organ that accumulates lutein in the body, and so lutein has already been used by the body to promote skin health. However, Lutein is a liposoluble substance, it is difficult to disperse in water and has an intense yellow color. These characteristics limit the use of lutein in cosmetic formulations, because it is very difficult to stabilize Lutein in the topic formulation. For this, it is necessary to use many synthetics excipients, which is prohibited for cosmetic use. In addition, the use of formulations with lutein can cause stains on the skin and clothes so that decrease use for consumers. Another important point is that Lutein has low penetration into the skin due to its physical-chemical characteristics, resulting in low efficacy or use of high concentration in the formulation resulting in formulation with an unpleasant appearance. Thus, the technological solution proposed in this project is Ynano Lut Product, which is a lipid nanocarrier delivery system containing Lutein. This project is important because the main aspects for the introduction of this solution as a cosmetic ingredient will be evaluated during the project, such as formulation compatibility, stability, safety and efficacy. Therefore, the project results will be fundamental to demonstrate the proof of concept to use this ingredient in the cosmetic products. (AU)
