Abstract

This research project aims to address different problems that arise in the planning of the industrial production, such as, for example, the lot-sizing problem, the cutting-stock problem, the scheduling problem and the transportation problem, with the objective of proposing mathematical modeling and efficient and robust solution methods. In addition, the theory of multi-objective optimization will be studied and applied to problems that are characterized by having conflicting objectives. Considering the complexity of the integrated approach to planning problems, we intend to contribute to the research area, proposing new solution procedures based on exact and heuristic methods, for example, metaheuristics. In particular, two applications to be considered will be in production planning in paper industries and in planning the process of planting, harvesting, transporting and processing sugarcane. However, other applications may be considered during their development. (AU)
