Characteristic Classes, Cobordism and Polar Varieties

Abstract

During the visitor's stay, two main activities will be developed. The continuation of the project "Cobordism between Morse applications" that the researcher develops in collaboration with Brazilian researchers Marcelo José Saia, from UFSCAR, São Carlos, Alice Kimie Mia Libardi and Eliris Cristina Rizziolli, both from UNESP, Rio Claro. In addition, the visitor will give a course on polar manifolds relating such objects with characteristic classes in the cases of smooth manifolds and singular manifolds. This course will have a strong impact on researchers and graduate students from the Graduate Program in Mathematics at UFSCar, strengthening the local institution in its driving role in the study of singularities in Brazil. In addition, the benefits of this course will also be extremely important for researchers and students from institutions close to UFSCar, such as ICMC/Usp and Unesp in Rio Claro. We emphasize that the French institution CIMPA will contribute to this visit, paying the visitor's transport expenses. (AU)
