Contributions to electromagnetic transients in power systems focusing on sustainable development goal 07

The Brazilian electrical power system will have substantial growth in the near future. It is important that young researchers can participate in the expansion projects, namely at electromagnetic transient area. The Brazilian electrical energy matrix will experience important changes, with the increase of intermittent renewable generation systems such as solar and wind. New Transmission Lines (TL) will be built and integrated to the Brazilian Interconnected System, being of utmost importance that young engineers, researchers and academia can operate and propose solutions focusing on low cost and high efficiency, to reduce the overall energy cost and environmental impact. Regarding electrification of remote communities, our team develops research for energy harvesting from the surroundings of transmission lines using a collector line. The system can be built near transmission lines of 230 kV or above and generates 100 kW without jeopardizing the transmission line safety or reliability. This technology can be applied to communities up to 50 km far from the TL route. One of our research projects consists in developing transmission lines structures for single or multiple circuits with high power capacity and low cost, besides the smaller right-of-way. This technology reduces the environmental impact of new transmission line corridors.Another research consists in an alternative transmission line in alternating current with very long distance without intermediate substations, which also has a reduced cost when compared with up-to-date solutions. All apparatus can be built in Brazil.Researches involving transmission line auto-reclosing after fault events, with smaller restoration time when compared to the ones currently applied, are important to reduce the impact of contingencies in Brazilian Interconnected System.
