ANNUAL PLAN FOR THE APPLICATION OF THE TECHNICAL RESERVE FOR INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE, 2022.

Abstract

The Instituto de Zootecnia develops projects in all areas of animal production, with an emphasis, in the last decade, on sustainable animal production. There are five Research Centers (supported by other administrative centers), divided into Beef Cattle Research Venter (Sertãozinho), Dairy Cattle Research Center (Nova Odessa), Diversified Livestock Research Center (Nova Odessa), Nutrition and Pastures Research Center (Nova Odessa) and Health and Genetics Research Center (Nova Odessa). All mentioned Research Centers are directly linked to the Postgraduate course in Sustainable Livestock Production, with the aim not only of developing projects but also of training human resources and transferring knowledge. The actual research Fapesp regular project belongs to the Beef Cattle Research Center (2021/06446-7), involving the areas of animal breeding, animal welfare and behavior. The Beef Cattle Research Center has selection herds of the Caracu and Nelore breeds and several researches are carried out with the data generated by the selection herds. The present proposal aims to request the use of the institutional technical reserve (RTI) for the acquisition of genotyping of the animals of the selection herd of the Caracu breed, from this Center, with the aim of starting genomic studies and incorporating information from markers in the genetic evaluations of the animals. We understand that the genotyping of the animals will have to be used continuously by the researchers and students of the laboratory of genetic of the Beef Cattle Center and also, improve the Institutional Structure of IZ.
