Abstract

This project aims to partially fund the visit to Brazil of Prof. Michael Faber, Department of Built Environment at Aalborg University, Denmark. Prof. Faber has an extensive list of research achievements in the areas of probabilistic modeling and analysis of systems with applications to governance and management of risks, resilience and sustainability in the built environment. Prof. Faber is one of the researches responsible for the foundations of a Theory of Structural Reliability. Prof. Faber´s current engagements include the Joint Committee on Structural Safety (Past President), the WEF (member of the Global Expert Network on Risk and Resilience), the Global Risk Forum in Davos (Research Fellow), the Danish Research Council and the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. Prof. Faber is a founding member and current President of the Joint Committee on the GLOBE Consensus on the Sustainability on the Built environment. The GLOBE Consensus praises to direct the attention of the global community, politicians, industry leaders, and societal decision-makers to the critical importance of the built environment for sustainable development at global and local scales. Actions are urgently required to ensure that the built environment of the future is resilient, adequately safe, and socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable. Prof. Faber´s visit includes academic talks to post-graduate students from the University of São Paulo, and more technical/application-oriented talks at ABECE and the IBRACON conference. (AU)
